You all know I have been struggling lately to get my training runs in during the week – especially when it is dark and cold by the time I get home and looks like this outside my front door:

Well, tonight, I had enough! No more excuses for me. Equipped with my treadmill, Inception (thank you to my husband for the completely awesome Christmas present, by the way), and my very own stage lighting, I set up my home-theater-gym-in-one:
After much configuring, I wish I had a movie projector now (or just a TV might be nice), I got my laptop just to the right height to watch it without straining my neck (excuse my dead plants by the way – apparently they have to completely die before I will take them to the dumpster):
It was one foot in front of the other, as I tested out my set-up:
Was I really going to run on the treadmill this time? Grace was skeptical and preferred I continue napping with her:
Until I turned it on and it began to whir, rather loudly, which sent her and Sadie fleeing up the stairs to safety:
Where they pondered resuming their nap:
When the movie started, I was off and running – literally – no turning back now:
Simon even departed from his little spot in the sun and started flailing about in the water, clearly astounded at what was occurring before his very eyes:
The fish that has lived forever (I hope this doesn’t kill him) even came to the glass to watch:
And Grace came back downstairs for a minute to see if I was really feeling okay:
My favorite part was when Cobb/Leonardo was racing through the African market fleeing the corporation – I, for one, thought I was right there with him until he got momentarily stuck between the walls and I kept going! It was beautiful – I think I actually forgot I was on the treadmill for awhile.
Four glorious miles and well into the second level of Inception-dreaming later, I was done! And I promptly stood on the treadmill for another half hour before I realized I was hungry, sweaty, and still standing on the treadmill crying (Mal just jumped out of the window) while watching the movie. I get a little involved when it comes to movies I like.
But I ran and I am so happy!
Do you have a favorite movie you like to watch when you are running? I think I might be on to something! Do you run at home on the treadmill or the gym?
Happy running,

  1. Love your pet pictures! And nice little set-up you have there!

  2. Running in Ohio these days is tough! Good for you for getting it done on the dreadmill with a movie! Makes it easier for sure!

  3. My fiance & I just watched Inception the other night too! Well, we actually had to watch it over 2 nights b/c I couldn’t stay awake.

I typically run on the treadmill at the gym during the winter, I really hate the cold. I will force myself to go outside if I have a long run though…as long as it isn’t too icy. I have been known to do 20 milers on the treadmill before!

  4. I know it is hard to run on a treadmil and even harder to be inside. This won’t last long, spring is coming! Plus Ohio usually has some nice days in February. Keep up the good work.
You know my daughter can run 26 miles on a treadmil. I just don’t know how she does it.

Really, Keep up the good work! From Connie
