Please welcome my father, Bill, who composed this special message for all of you who knew my mother from the running community.
Me, Dad and Mollie with Mom’s bib after Cap City on May 7.
During the past two weeks, the response to Darlene’s death from everyone in the running community has been amazing. Darlene loved to be around the MIT runners in general not only for the companionship she found while training, but also because she genuinely loved you and you evidently loved her just as much. The cards, flowers, love and support we have received has been beyond belief. Darlene was undoubtedly smiling in heaven with so many runners dedicating their Capital City race to her on the 7th of May. I know she may not have there in person, but she was there in the hearts and souls of a lot of runners.Thank you, Julie, for wearing Darlene’s number and giving us her medal and bib number. Julie, you said you were “honored to run for Darlene,” but I think Darlene would have been honored by your love for her. With love,Bill
Julie G. as she finished the Cap City Quarter Marathon wearing my Mom’s bib:
Until the next mile marker,
Sara! wow. I am so glad your dad shared this message. Reading this has brought tears to my eyes but. It is so touching. your mother sounds amazing and that picture of Julie crossing the finish line with her bib on is inspiring.
Thank you so much for commenting on my blog today. I am so glad you did and I am so glad I found your blog. I am excited to follow you…your blog already just seems so inspiring and amazing. Before I even read the post I fell in love with the caption under your title.
Have a good night!
Yup, definitely have a crush on your dad!
Those pictures of Julie are fantastic! I’m so glad she was able to wear your mom’s bib and run for her. We were also honored to wear your mom’s picture and I know we all missed her on Saturday.
I am sorry that I never had the chance to meet your mom – she sounds like such an amazing woman. I know that she was smiling down on you all that day while you were running.
Kim
Again..amazing…
I just read about it now, and I’m so sorry for your loss.
What your mom’s friend did is beautiful, people are beautiful.
