Am I Goofy or What? Week #5 Training Recap

This recap is brought to you by…
My Newfound Friends!

Big Al.
I love animals! This guy is a big ‘ole Alley Cat (hence, Big Al) that visited us at lunch on Thursday. He lives in the neighborhood our building is located in, but I don’t think he officially belongs to anybody. He seems to like the street life – and he unfortunately has numerous kittens running around. He seems to be in good health, although a little skinny. So, he got some hamburger and chicken pieces from us, which made him purr. He’s really friendly and talkative, and it was nice to have a feline friend join us for our lunch break.
My running was less than stellar this week, which makes me sad. I could have kicked it up a notch, but I let a massive sinus (I think) headache and lack of sleep get me down this weekend and didn’t even meet the Lucky 13’s for a run. Sunday, I succumbed to laziness and dress shopping with my sister. It was nice to have a break, but then again, I am kicking myself today. I let a stressful workweek get to me last week and it really affected me this weekend. Not good at all. I did, however, get in a few runs and a great strength training workout compliments of Elle. Break is over, though, I get back on track today!!

Yesterday, Michael discovered this little gal hanging out on our screen door. I like Praying Mantis – I think they are really interesting, and I never get bored of watching them. I don’t see them very often so I get excited when I do. She was very small and brownish. And, not very thrilled about having her picture taken, she flew away right after I took this one:
Am I Goofy or what?! My Weekly Training Recap:
  • TUE 10/04 – Ran for time; 20 minutes at an easy pace, 1 mile.
  • WED 10/05 – Ran for time, 40 minutes at an easy pace, 2.33 miles.
  • THU 10/06- Ran for time; 30 minutes at an easy pace; 2 miles; 20 minutes of strength training with the Eat Run Sail workout.

Pitiful, I know. I need to not let work and personal issues get me down. I get in a rut and find it hard to get out of it. After that, I need to pick up where I left off, get back on the wagon and say “Here’s to a better tomorrow!”

How do you guys handle it when your non-running life gets you down?

Until the next mile marker,

Cute kitty! Bad weeks happen to the best of us. Running tends to be my way of dealing with real life downers….but I find that once I’m in a rut of not getting my workouts in, it’s easier and easier to skip just one more. Hope this week is better!

  2. What Mandy said. Also, praying mantises freak me out after that episode of Buffy with the praying mantis lady who ate dudes after making them fertilize her eggs. Shudder.

don’t stress friend! you will get back into it! hoping you feel better this week! thinking of you!

  4. Sara, so sweet of you to share you lunch with Big Al. You have likely made a friend for life. I love stories like this as I am such an animal lover myself… and that praying mantiss is pretty neat. I have never seen one.

Thanks for nod on the workout front. I haven’t done mine for a couple of days now… spent today down with The Captain’s cold… which he is over now so that is good. Will run its course.

I hope you have a great week!

  5. Kimberly Turner Bouldin says

We all have bad weeks, Sara! The bottom line is that you are still getting out there! Good for you!! When my life gets stressful, I run more, which isn’t always a good thing. There has to be a balance somewhere.

You do the best that you can do FOR YOU!

  6. Love the little animal buddies! Fun to have them even for a visit. So you just need to dust yourself off and get back on the bandwagon–you’ll be happy when you do!

  7. Suzanne Westenhofer says

Just get back out there and make time to run. It will be such a great release for everything else that’s bogging you down.

  8. RunToTheFinish says

I learned the very hard way that stress really takes a major toll on your body and can definitely make running harder. So cut yourself some slack this week and just know you’ll get back to it 🙂
