The support I have received from my family, friends, colleagues, fellow runners, and followers’ regarding switching to the Half Marathon in October has been really encouraging. Thank you from the bottom of my heart, words cannot describe how much I value your encouragement, advice, and support. It is still a hard decision for me to come to terms with, but with your kind words, I have been making it through! And, of course, I can’t wait for you all to continue on this journey with me to cross the finish line as a Marathoner next year!
Here are a few of my favorite things you have shared:
My dear daughter, I know how hard this decision was for you and the disappointment that you must feel. But in my eyes and Dad’s, you have already started and finished a marathon! Considering ALL that you have accomplished is a feat all of its own!! There are not enough words or hugs to tell you how proud we are of you! Pick your head up high and smile for in our books you are wonderful. You had the courage to start running and that was huge. Smile, you have made a difference in my life with encouraging me to reach one of my goals and I am looking forward to running my first 5K with you. Failure is a word that does not belong in your vocabulary because you did not fail at anything.
– Darlene, my Mother
I could never be disappointed in anything you do or don’t do. I want you to enjoy what you are doing and still be able to run without blowing out your knee! I know you will run a Marathon – just not this fall.
– Michael, my Husband
What is this, your first day in life?!? Things happen! I don’t care about Marathons or Half Marathons or even running for that matter. I care that you are pushing yourself and you are. I’m proud of you.
– Dan, my Friend (and Trainer!)
Sometimes you have to just accept what you can and can’t do. What if you took this to mean you could continue to do half marathons until shredded your first time by a jazillion hours and did it in like 45 minutes…. LOL! What’s wrong with being the best at what you can do? If your body won’t let you, then try something else. Put your heart into a duathalon and run/bike or run/swim or even a triathalon. Try to do a half-marathon in every state? You just need to turn this around to your advantage. Isn’t life truly one big modification??
– Rebecca, my Friend
Sara, you are such an inspiration to me and I look up to your strength. When I have trouble getting into working out I always seem to think about you and how much you have accomplished and it gives me motivation to stick with my workout. Don’t feel like your quitting…you are just preparing for a later date!
– Mindy, my Blog Friend
Sara, don’t feel like a disappointment always listen to your body. You could run a full in the Spring if you feel good. Cleveland is really flat too and it is in May.
– Wendy, my Friend
Sara, don’t be disappointed, as you have already been told, you have come so far! You should be proud of what you have achieved.
– Stacey, my Cousin
Thank you. Thank you to those I have mentioned here. Thank you to those I have not mentioned here who have been encouraging and supportive and positive. Because of you, I’m looking forward to what tomorrow brings.
