Ohio State Report for Week of December 05, 2011
You can also listen to my report HERE.
This week we’re taking it to the trails with the OhioOutside.com Trail Series. It’s not too late to sign up for the third race in this series taking place on Saturday, December 10. The race features a two-loop, five mile course, located entirely inside the Munroe Falls Metro Park about 10 miles outside of Akron. You have until 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday to register through Active.com and the cost is only $23 so don’t wait! The race packet includes a custom pint beer glass, gels and other “goodies”. Post race awards include running gear and gift certificates to local stores along with door prizes from Totally Cooked Catering and Montrail.
Also in Northeastern Ohio on December 10 is the Firefighters Frozen 5K, taking place at 9:30 a.m. at the Fire Station off Route 422 and Tibbetts Wick Road in Niles. Both the 5K and one mile fun run begin at the Weathersfield Fire Department. The Weathersfield Township is having a food drive that will be donated to the Niles Community Services. They will be collecting non perishable food items and monetary donations on race day. Race Day registration is available for $16 and awards will be given to the top three overall male and female finishers as well as to the top age group finishers. You can find more information on the Firefighters’ Frozen 5K Facebook Page.
Finally, you can help get your holiday season off to a healthier start with the M3S Sports Holiday Run on Sunday, December 11at the Sharon Woods Metro Park in Westerville. The race begins at 9:00 a.m. and takes a four mile scenic loop through the beautiful park. I have been there many times, although not for this race in particular, and it is one of my favorite parks in Central Ohio. The course welcomes both beginning and experienced runners and walkers, with a few challenging hills. All participants receive hot chocolate and cookies at the finish line, a long-sleeve technical shirt and finisher’s medal. You can register through m3Ssports.com through December 10 for $45. Be advised, there is no race day registration.
