I had not heard about Energybits until recently when interacting with the company on Twitter. I was immediately engaged by the friendly staff members
and intrigued by the product itself, all-natural algae-based nutrition to help improve endurance, energy and health.
Since I didn’t know anything about Energybits, I was impressed that I received so much information from the company. It really helped me to understand what their products are all about. Energybits are 100% spirulina algae. They have been used by Olympic athletes and NASA astronauts for over 50 years, but are virtually unheard of in the United States. For just one calorie per table, they deliver energy and endurance as a high protein, high performance snack food for athletes and consumers. Spirulina algae has the highest concentration of protein in the world (about 3 times as much as steak) and the algae Energybits uses is 100% organically grown and contains natural nitric oxide, 40 vitamins and minerals, Omega 3 and 64% protein all which naturally boost energy, concentration, endurance and performance without the caffeine, chemicals, sugar and calories.
For me, it is an added plus that they are also naturally free of gluten and soy.
I never gave algae a second thought, much less considered it a source of nutrition and the information Energybits sent me is none less than fascinating. Algae is a food (not a supplement) that has been used worldwide for 50 years, most notably in Asia where it is known as the most nutrient dense food in the world. Its long list of health benefits includes increased energy, reduced blood pressure and prevention of colds. It is rich in protein, chlorophyll, beta carotene, antioxidants and other vitamins – the most concentrated in the world. Algae is a food because it is a crop that is grown, just like other plants in nature. It is grown in water similar to plant hydroponics and takes about a month to grow, after which it is harvested, dried and packed and sold as a dry food similar to apple or banana slices. Unlike foods, supplements are made in labs – not grown. In addition, Energybits are 100% algae and do not contain any additives or banned substances.
What You Need to Know
The Pros:
- Energybits is a quick, easy, nutritional snack that you can take on the go – between meals or before or after your workout.
- Energy-bits is a natural, whole, low –calorie food that keeps you feeling full between meals during the day.
- 100% organic and non-GMO food, meaning our bodies can readily absorb and digest the nutrients in algaie without contributing to food allergies, toxicity and other chronic health conditions. Our bodies do not easily absorb supplements because they are not natural to us.
- According to NASA, 1 gram of algae has the nutritional equivalent of 1,000 grams of fruits and vegetables.
The Cons:
- Energybits do not taste very good. I chewed one just to see. They are referred to as an “acquired taste,” and I agree! I would recommend swallowing them; they are fairly small so I found them easy to swallow.
- The recommended serving size is 30 tabs. I found that is a lot of pills to take at one time (especially if you take other pills too) so I took them in handfuls to cut it down. On the plus side, they do come with a small travel tin so you can take 30 with you in your bag or pocket.
I swallowed 30 Energybits as a snack late in the afternoon (around 3:00) because I wasn’t sure when I would be eating dinner and was still not hungry around 7:30 that evening so I can tell the increased protein really made a difference in my appetite, or lack thereof. I almost forgot to eat dinner!

30 tablets a day? Seeing as I’m getting realllly good at taking medicine, what’s 30 more?! 🙂
Yep 30 a day, although we recommend eating all 30 right before exercise for best results!
I think they taste like chewing dry roasted edamame and I think that if you eat them a couple at a time taking a few minutes to do that, they go down pretty easy. Would love to win your giveaway!
I’m curious to see if I can notice the difference!
Interesting… I’m always looking for new ways to achieve my protein goal for the day!
I have been looking for something like this to use on my long runs and half marathons. Thinking it would be great to have a more natural product than what I’ve found thus far! Thanks for the post!
I need something to curb my crazy appetite.
Would love to try these before a workout since if i eat much i feel ill- would be healthier than an espresso!
