My real-life friend and running buddy Judi recently tagged me in a post. The task? Name five things I like about [gasp!] myself. Yikes! Judi, did you know you would be challenging me? I’m not at all into complimenting myself – I still have some self-esteem issues, I guess you could say.
I am, however, impressed with my friends who have also taken on this challenge and detailed some endearing traits about themselves – Mandy and Sarah. Check them out! Sarah at Running on Words is also hosting an Everstride Giveaway so stop over and put your name in the hat to win! I, for one, think I am going to give their products a try.
Okay, enough stalling, on to five things – deep breath – and…
- I [think] I am a good writer. I enjoy writing – for me it is therapy and the best way I communicate. I think I would rather write someone an email, a letter or send them a handwritten card than talk on the phone. I wish I could write professionally. Lately, I have been thinking about getting into freelancing. All my life, I was told I am a talented writer and now I sometimes wish I would have paid more attention to people and studied writing in school! I love literature and reading too. I blog about and journal about everything in my life. I won a National writing award when I was in Eighth Grade and got to read my piece at the National Gallery of Art in Washington D.C., but that is as far as I went it seems! I did love writing papers in college – I still would if someone would ask me to! 😉 Someday I would like to write a book too.
- I [think] I like my legs. They are my favorite body part. I like the shape of them and that they are long. Really, I am not too happy with my physical attributes, although I am better than I used to be. My legs are one of the few things I do like. Maybe because I use them for running?
- I like that I have a lot of traditional values that I don’t think a lot of people in my generation deem relevant anymore. I don’t believe in adultery or lying. I believe in family and persistence and friendship. I believe we should be kind to one another and treat each other with respect. I see too many people my age and younger who think society “owes” them something. I value hard work and dedication to the cause. We should not get something for nothing – we are not entitled to whatever we think we are, unless we have worked hard for it.
- [This is getting hard] I like that I am living proof that you do not have to be super-human to start losing weight and getting healthy. Whether you chose to run or walk or kickbox or shoot hoops – it doesn’t matter, anyone can make the decision to make a difference! I love it that I have run five half marathons and a full marathon. I am extremely proud of those accomplishments, but I also know that everyone has the ability to do these things too!
- [This is getting really hard so I asked my sister for advice and happened to agree with her, I really hope that doesn’t count as cheating]…I am trustworthy and a good friend. If you ask me to keep something confidential, I will. I value my friendships too. I am there for my friends no matter what; even it means me being honest with them or them with me about things that may be uncomfortable to talk about. I don’t judge my friends because I never know when I will need a friend myself when the going gets tough! I like that I [think] I give good advice, but do not shove it down someone else’s throat if they do not ask for it.
So, now I tag the following bloggers – what do you like or love about yourselves?

I wish I could tag you all! Tell me – what do you like about yourself?

Sara – I just found your blog through my MiT running buddy Heather (Running my Life) — and I am so glad I did 🙂 I love the way you write!
I especially liked what you said about liking your legs. I’d never really *liked* mine (I think it goes back to a comment from middle school, sigh), but marathon training has given me so much respect for them. They may not be perfect, but I am in awe of what they can do.
Again, beautiful post & I love your blog! I’m excited to read more 🙂
