RIP, my friend.

Thank you all for your prayers and thoughts. It is with great sadness and a heavy heart that I am writing this post to let you all know that my friend and running teammate, Stephanie, passed away early this morning with her family by her side.

Stephanie Auer

My deepest condolences to her family, friends, and also those of us in her MIT family. We love you Stephanie and we will miss you terribly. May you rest in peace, no longer suffering.

While it won’t be the same without you in our group, I know we will find your encouraging, loving, and patient spirit running “on the trails” on Saturday mornings.

When I am struggling and look behind me, I will see you smiling and waving to keep going strong. When I am struggling, I will remember you running back to me and telling me “it doesn’t matter how fast you get there, just that you do.” When I have to walk and feel bad about it, I will remember you taking time out of your workout to walk with me. I remember laughing with you on the trails. I remember the times you invited me to breakfast, and I wish I would have gone all of those times now. I remember October when we ran the half together – our last race together. I am so thankful we have that picture of us in the ballroom beforehand. I remember looking forward to running this MIT season with you and I am sad that we did not get that chance.

I will miss you, friend. May you find peace in Heaven and may your family and friends find peace that you are no longer suffering, but had touched so many lives, here on earth.

Until the next mile marker,

I’m sorry for your loss. I can’t imagine what her family is going through right now.

From your blog entries, it sounds like your friend led a great life and made the most of her time here. We just have to follow her example and live each day to the fullest.

Oh Sara, I am so sorry. This is so sad.

  6. I have such a heavy heart for you, her friends and family right now. Such a reminder of how short life is and what a gift that each moment we have on this earth is. The next time I want to give up, I’m going to think of your friend and keep going because we who have the opportunity to lace up and go, in life as well as the road, should never take a single moment for granted.

She sounds like a wonderful person and I’m sure her spirit will live forever in the hearts of those who were touched by her.

  7. I am so sorry for your loss and I offer my prays to her family. What a terrible loss of a beautiful, young woman and it sounds like she was a tremendous motivation for you.
She will be running with you this next season, whispering encouraging words in your ear…just listen and you may hear the flutter of her angel wings!
