Food of the Week

Cliff bar and tea

I stayed pretty consistent, although I know I overate when we returned from our backpacking trip because I felt like I could not stop eating. I was so hungry, and I am convinced I lost all of my weight simply in sweat on that trip. The above served as a nice after dinner treat on our trip and consisted of a Coconut Chocolate Chip Cliff Bar and Coconut Chocolate Truffle Hot Tea. The total was 7 WW points and much needed after the energy I exerted during the day.

Activity of the Week

Zaleski sign

Um, only the hardest activity I have ever done. It was harder than any half or full I have done and rivals the difficulty of the Goofy Challenge, but in a different way. I backpacked Zaleski State Forest with about 30 lbs on my back and covered a distance of about 8.5 miles over the course of two days. It was hard, and I even managed to fall off a cliff. More to come later this week! (No, seriously, I’m really lucky I’m okay, being on blood thinners and everything).

Reflections

I’m satisfied with this week, even though I thought I should have lost more weight. I have missed the satisfaction that comes with completing a physical achievement I never thought I could or would – for me, that was backpacking. If I am going to continue backpacking (which I want to do), I need to get in much better shape and not only incorporate mileage into my workouts, but strength training as well. Goal set.

Until the next mile marker,

Food of the Week

coconut juice

Okay, so it’s not so much a food this week as it is the Best. Juice. Ever. 120 cal – all natural, no preservatives, no additives, essential micro-nutrients and electrolytes (I thought about drinking this after a workout instead of Gatorade), helps glucose levels and immunity, anti-oxidants, PACKED with Vitamin C, Gluten Free, Casein (Dairy) Free (It’s not like milk either), GMO Free. – I could go on and on! It was a little expensive at $5.99 for a small bottle, but it is SO good!

Activity of the Week

I ran twice this week in preparation for the Emerald City Quarter Marathon in August. I even battled a 2 mile run on Sunday in the heat and humidity and wouldn’t have finished the run-walk intervals without the support of Judi, who stayed with me the entire way, even as we slowed our pace. Thank you, Judi, I am glad to be back to running with you guys!

Cuties, good juice that is good for you

All juice together text edited

I tweeted that I could not get enough of Cuties Juice. Did you even know they made juice? I didn’t until recently! Yes, Cuties Juice is brought to you by the same family farmers that bring you the goodness of Cuties tangerines. All of their Clementines, Mandarins, and Oranges are grown in the California sunshine, picked squeezed and bottled in the eco-friendly juice plant, fresh for you! I was surprised and grateful when the company sent me some coupons to try more Cuties Juice for myself – since the juice is squeezed fresh, I had to go directly to the store to get it. Below is my review of Cuties, good juice that is good for you.

I found Cuties in my area at Target and not the regular grocery store. Cuties has a store locator on their website, so I recommend you check it out so you can find out where to get Cuties near you! With my coupons, I got several kinds of Cuties, including juice and smoothies. I love that Cuties has such a wide variety of juices and smoothies to choose from and the 8 oz sizes are perfect for on-the-go snacking or to pack for lunch. Of the juice, my favorite is the Tangerine-Orange-Mango blend – it is slightly, but not overpoweringly sweet, and tastes like a tropical vacation in a bottle. If you don’t know where to start, try the 100% Tangerine juice. It is only 100 calories for an 8 oz serving and contains no additives or artificial ingredients.

I did not like the smoothies as much as the juice, but I am particular about smoothies. They have to be ice cold and I prefer them directly out of the blender, however, the smoothies would be great in the morning with breakfast because they pack a nutritional punch that is hard to find in such a small package. My favorite was the Tangerine and Blueberry Smoothie. In just one 8 oz bottle are 2 1/2 Cuties, 15 blueberries and 1/2 a peach. I actually do not like to eat blueberries because I don’t like the texture, but I know they have health benefits, including vital antioxidants, that you can’t find in many other foods. I like the taste of this smoothie a lot!

Cuties 100% Tangerine Juice is always squeezed from FRESH Clementine and Mandarin fruit, never from concentrate. The only sugar in Cuties Juice comes from the fruit itself, unlike some other brands of juice, which is why I really try to limit the amount of juice I drink. With Cuties Juice there is no added sugar, no refined sugar and no artificial sweeteners. It’s all real and all natural and that’s good for you! All of the juices and smoothies have 150 % Daily Value of Vitamin C per 8 oz serving, which offers a quick boost to the immune system. They provide 1 or 2 grams of protein per serving and are packed full of antioxidants.

In addition, the GoGoGreen Tangerine and Kiwi Smoothie contains pirulina and Golden Chlorella—two plant (algae) superfoods that provide highly bio-available all-vegetable protein, essential vitamins and phytonutrients such as the antioxidant beta-carotene, and the important essential fatty acid Gamma-linoleic acid (GLA). They are also rich in iron, magnesium, and calcium. As you know, omega fatty acids are important because they regulate cell function, genetic function and have been shown to be beneficial to heart health. You can find out more nutritional information this Smoothie here. While the color may make you hesitate, I found this smoothie to be second in taste to the blueberry. I would purchase it in the larger quantity to get the health benefits as well.

Last, but certainly not least, Cuties Juices are squeezed and bottled in a plant that strives to be energy efficient sustainable and currently Cuties is striving for all of their bottles to be made of 100% Post Consumer recycled material. All of the bottles are and will always be BPA Free.

Be sure to connect with Cuties Juice on Twitter and Facebook and be the first to hear of special offers and promotions. The Twitter feed is a lot of fun!

And, of course, anything Cuties related would not be complete without the Cuties stickers, which they also sent to me. (They played a vital role in my notes of this review).

Thank you to Cuties Juice for supplying me with a generous amount of coupons to purchase Cuties Juice for review on my blog. And, thank you to my sister and her dog, Maddie for helping with the photographs.

What about you? Did you know there was such a thing as Cuties Juice? Have you tried Cuties Juice? If so, which one is your favorite?

Until the next mile marker,

Please note: I was sent several coupons for free 8 oz bottles of juice for this review of Cuties Juice. I was not compensated in any way and was not asked to write a positive review. I simply love juice that tastes good and is good for me, and the opinions expressed in this post are solely my own.
