Wait?! I have a significant other?! Yes, friends, he does exist! Michael and I have known each other for ten years?! Yes, I guess that is about right. We dated on and off for a few of those years.

I started working at the same store Michael was working at over summer break (from college) because a friend of mine worked there. I ran into him as he was coming out of the back and introduced myself (Please Note: Hisversion is that I leapt in front of him, blocking his path and not only introduced myself, but announced I was studying Criminal Justice. I maintain it did not happen like this). I was instantly attracted to him and long story short, we started dating about a month before my 21st birthday – after he swore up and down he would not a) date anyone he worked with and b) date anyone under 21. I must have been lucky!
Our fifth wedding anniversary will be in July.
4. If you are married, where did you get married at? Big or small wedding?
We had a small wedding in Westerville, Ohio, which is where I grew up. We got married at a church and had our reception at the Everal Barn and Homestead. It is a beautiful site. Included on the National Register of Historic Places, the Everal Barn it is named for one of the earliest families to settle the area. We had a small, afternoon wedding, and since the Everal Barn is dry, it worked out perfectly because people could continue the celebration afterwards, if they wanted. We took my Dad’s ’77 Charger to the wedding and reception. It was so much fun! We served a family style dinner, had a DJ and a traditional Slovak cookie table, which my Mom baked for. We got married on 07/07/07 – again, I must have been lucky! 😉

We’re not the nickname type. Although, Michael does like to yell “Hon!” from whatever room he is in that I am not. Does Michael count? I am one of the few that actually calls him by his full name! He introduced himself to me as that and it stuck.
- He is the total opposite of me! I can always count on him to shed a different light on almost any situation we are in. He encourages me to “think outside the box.”
- He has an adventurous spirit.
- He values marriage the way I do.
He proposed under the fireworks on July 4, 2006. The Fourth of July is my absolute favorite holiday, and I love fireworks. He waited until about halfway through the show and then he got down on one knee in front of me and said, “Sara, will you marry me?” I was so excited I couldn’t decide if I should look at him, the ring or the fireworks. I remember saying “Yes!” and people around us were cheering.

He normally does this at fireworks! |
We normally don’t do anything special for Valentine’s Day, but Michael is not a flowers and teddy bear kind of guy. He is romantic, though, and likes to cook a candlelight dinner. He cooks the best homemade pizza!
Once in awhile, we enjoy a nice evening out to dinner, but we are more likely to pop in a movie and relax on the couch. Michael does sweet things that he knows I enjoy like taking me to the zoo or to art festivals.
Other times we just get matching tattoos. |
I would sail around the world with Michael. For now, we canoe the Ohio waterways.
Nothing special! We will probably cook dinner together and maybe watch a movie. And, he probably won’t mind if I go for a run, which is another thing I love about him! 😉
No. We don’t exchange gifts on Valentine’s Day. I am just happy we both have the evening off!
Tell one another “I love you” everyday and mean it. A simple hug and a kiss can go a long way to make someone feel loved. Michael would like you to know one thing – Patience! And that is all.
Happy Valentine’s Day!
