Food of the Week

thai soup and salad

I’ve been trying to incorporate more vegetables into my diet – I don’t know what that continues to be so hard because I actually like them. I ate out at Noodles this week (not the healthiest of choices), but I kept it light with the Asian Thai Curry Soup (yum!!!) and the cucumber and tomato fresh salad. It was really good and I felt good about the choices I made. The meal I had was 16 WW points (regular size soup) or you could order the smaller size soup and salad for 9 WW points. I like that the Weight Watchers Mobile App has restaurants in it so I can literally scroll through and know what I am eating before I order it, eliminating hesitation on what is healthier to order or not. I had a big salad at home that night for dinner with fresh tomatoes from the garden since lunchtime was heavier on points.

Activity of the Week

I took a couple of walks, but I have really struggled getting back into running ever since my 5K. I feel like I did after a marathon. Pretty Muddy Central Ohio is in two days, and I am not at all sure how I feel about that. A little worried for sure!

Reflections

I need to get better at writing down my points again because I have not been doing that. Most days, I need to make a conscious effort to track my points.

hive and honey products

Find out about Hive and Honey: What you Don’t and Should Know. I enjoy learning about alternative treatments and remedies. I didn’t know about all the things honey, pollen and propolis (okay, I didn’t even know what it was) could do until I learned about it from these products. Blog School starts next week, and I can’t wait!

Mumford Live

What’s the next best birthday present besides actually seeing Mumford & Sons live? Listening to them live any time I want on their Red Rocks Live Album (the original Gentleman of the Road Tour, which they are on again now).

Food of the Week

salad and spaghetti

I made homeade spaghetti and meatballs this week (gluten-free), which was a real treat! I made sure to include a fresh salad with fresh tomatoes and peppers from the garden. I bought a gigantic tub of spinach and baby lettuce leaves so we are having a salad with dinner about every night now. It has also served as lunch for me during the day with some tuna or other vegetables added in.

Activity of the Week

grace at wagfest

While my ankle is healing, it is still tender to the touch, which means I have been easy on it the past three weeks now. We were at Wagfest (a festival for dogs) all day Saturday and while I wasn’t exercising per say, I was moving around and got a lot of fresh air on a short dog walk Saturday and again on Sunday (Monday was National Dog Day in case you missed it). Being outside in nature definitely helped improve my mood, but I am sure a lack of regular physical activity for this much time now has contributed to my gain this week.

Reflections

So my 31st birthday is THIS Friday and THIS is happening this weekend in Troy, Ohio. It’s really all I can think about (other than I wish my ankle would heal so I can exercise again and I think I heal slower on blood thinners for some reason). I cannot wait, I cannot wait, I cannot wait, but I will wait! Stay tuned for my post on Friday about why Mumford and Sons means so much to me. Many have asked and now I will tell!

I’m really excited to have had the opportunity this past week to do some writing outside of this blog. Question of the Week

me collage

I’ve been feeling creative (not necessarily good!) with my camera lately. What do you think of weekly posts that are just photographs and maybe a caption? Yay or nay? Should I do that or continue including photos in the Weekly Weigh-In Post? Do you view photograph-only posts on other blogs or breeze by? Tell me your thoughts in the comments!

Food of the Week

lamb cooking

Lamb! I get really tired of chicken, beef and shrimp and I don’t like pork all that much. I like lamb because it has a slightly gamey taste and really is something different to try. I really only like it grilled (rib steaks or chops) and we usually only eat it in the summer. Lamb is a red meat and although it can be fatty, the unsaturated (or healthy) fats make up over half the fat in lamb – so, it’s fat your body needs. Lamb also has a high nutritional value and is an especially good source of zinc and iron, making it a high quality protein. Zinc is essential for growth, tissue repair, and a healthy immune system iron for the formation of red blood cells. Lamb is rich in B vitamins, essential for the body’s metabolic reactions. Lamb is also nature’s best source for an amino acid called carnitine, which is needed to generate energy from fatty acids. If you haven’t tried it and enjoy red meat – do! You can find it in your local grocery store with the meats.

Activity of the Week

None. I’m still recovering ankle-wise from falling off a cliff two weekends ago. My ankle is bruised and slightly swollen still, especially at the end of the day. I’m monitoring it closely for signs of a new blood clot, for obvious reasons. This has thrown a huge wrench in my training plans for the upcoming quarter marathon (Sunday).

Reflections

I won’t be able to run the Emerald City Quarter Marathon this weekend. That makes me incredibly sad. The 5K took almost everything I had out of me and I still have Pretty Muddy coming up in September. I am trying to reconcile running a successful 5K, falling off a cliff and not running the Quarter in my mind. I revert back to something I used to tell others I coached…there will always be another race.

Food of the Week

Cliff bar and tea

I stayed pretty consistent, although I know I overate when we returned from our backpacking trip because I felt like I could not stop eating. I was so hungry, and I am convinced I lost all of my weight simply in sweat on that trip. The above served as a nice after dinner treat on our trip and consisted of a Coconut Chocolate Chip Cliff Bar and Coconut Chocolate Truffle Hot Tea. The total was 7 WW points and much needed after the energy I exerted during the day.

Activity of the Week

Zaleski sign

Um, only the hardest activity I have ever done. It was harder than any half or full I have done and rivals the difficulty of the Goofy Challenge, but in a different way. I backpacked Zaleski State Forest with about 30 lbs on my back and covered a distance of about 8.5 miles over the course of two days. It was hard, and I even managed to fall off a cliff. More to come later this week! (No, seriously, I’m really lucky I’m okay, being on blood thinners and everything).

Reflections

I’m satisfied with this week, even though I thought I should have lost more weight. I have missed the satisfaction that comes with completing a physical achievement I never thought I could or would – for me, that was backpacking. If I am going to continue backpacking (which I want to do), I need to get in much better shape and not only incorporate mileage into my workouts, but strength training as well. Goal set.

Food of the Week

Sea Veggies SpicyI found these in the grocery store – spicy seaweed! They were really good and about 60 calories for the whole pack, which was small enough to put in my bag or purse.

Activity of the Week

I have not run since the 5K two weekends ago. I need to get back on that, but I feel so drained from it. That, and I am learning I will once again have to schedule time to work out and stick to it.
